Canon's new top-of-the-line Powershot G-series is know as the Canon G1 X. This is the replacement for the G12. Don't know why they abandoned the previous numbering sequence. Perhaps they didn't want to call it the G13 :-) It has an 18mp sensor.
This camera could replace the DSLR for many people.
