Official Upgrade (Downgrade) Path

It is official. Microsoft announced that consumers will be able to easily upgrade their Windows 7 and Vista computers to XP Professional. They are even allowing OEM's the ability to install XP Professional out of the box rather than bothering people with either Vista or Windows 7.

Now if we could get the super secure version of XP. :-)

Microsoft Bing

Walt Mossberg interviewed Microsoft's Steve Ballmer yesterday at the annual D7 conference about their new search engine 'Bing.' Mr. Ballmer can't even say the word Google. Walt Mossberg had to make him say Google. Throughout the interview Mr. Ballmer kept referring to Google as 'the market leader.'

What market strategy does Microsoft plan for this new search engine? Paying people to use it! Honestly, if you have to pay people to use your product, how good can it be. Microsoft could spend more effort on making a good operating system instead of Binging us with new Zunes :-) There's a thought!

Zune HD

You have to love it. No one bought the Zune, so in Microsoft's infinite wisdom, they decided to rip off the iPod Touch and build a Zune HD. I am sure that they will sell 3, maybe even 4 of them :-)

Prystar Files For Bankruptcy

Prystar filed for bankruptcy today. This Mac clone manufacturer had been making illegal Mac clones and could no longer fend off Apple's legal team.

Many believe that the money behind Prystar was one of the large PC manufacturers. This will come to light on June 5th when the bankruptcy hearing will name the creditors behind the company. This should be interesting to watch.

Army Moving To Vista

It seem that the U.S. Army has mandated that all computers be migrated to Vista by the end of the year. Two things come to mind. Do they not realize that Windows 7 will be out this Fall and why can't they get the super secure version of XP that Microsoft made for the Air Force?

Back From Jamaica

Emily and I just got back from Jamaica. The sunsets are pretty amazing. Grand Lido Negril isn't what it once was though. If you are considering going to Jamaica, do yourself a favor and go to Sandals Negril. You will be glad that you did!

Jamaica Time

It is that time of year again. A sun filled week in Negril Jamaica. We go every year but it seems like it has been forever. Off to the beach!

Top Secret Missile Defense Not So Secret

It turns out that the details of a highly secret US military missile air defence system are as easy to obtain as buying a used hard drive on eBay. British researchers found the data on a hard drive that they bought for a data security study. They bought the used hard drives from sources all over the world.

There is only one way to dispose of a used hard drive. You must physically destroy the drive! Anything less can lead to situations like this.

Virgin Galactic

Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic could be taking passengers to space in less than two years. Save your penny's. This trip will set you back $200,000. Mr. Branson has already collected $40 million in deposits. This would be fun if it weren't for the price tag.

This is hilarious! Our heroes are different than most.

New Microsoft Ads Are Made On A Mac

This is hilarious! The new Microsoft 'Laptop Hunter' ads, done by the ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky, were made on a Mac. Is this irony or what?

Consumer Report Loves Apple Laptops

The new Consumer Report has an Apple laptop rated at the top of each category. This should make Microsoft happy :-)

Vista Memorial

It seems that this is how Vista will be remembered. Microsoft announced today that when Windows 7 is released this Fall, Vista will no longer be available. They will however allow users that purchase Windows 7 machines to upgrade to XP.

Ultra Secure Windows XP

Microsoft actually makes a super secure version of XP. more than 600 settings are locked down tight, and critical security patches can be installed in an average of 72 hours instead of 57 days. The problem is that you have to be in the Air Force to get it.

This version of XP is a result of the NSA testing XP and making Swiss cheese of it. The Air Force then worked directly with Steve Ballmer to get a new super secure version of XP written.

Here is the question. Why can't conusmers get this super secure version of XP rather than suffer through Vista and now Windows 7?

It Is Spring

A sure sign of Spring. Donald and Daisy had their babies yesterday. These little guys are walking across the back yard. As they get older she will let us hand feed them. It is finally spring
