Antilles Seaplanes

This is a very cool story that reminds me of the resurrection of Polaroid. In 1936, Grumman aircraft was commissioned to build 10 planes that would become known as the Grumman G-21 Goose. It is famous for being able to land on land or water. By the end of World War II, there were 350 G-21's in existence. Grumman built he plane until 1970 when production ceased.

As one might imagine, spare parts became hard to obtain once production stopped. Dean Franklin of Miami was sole distributor of spare and used parts for the G-21 until 2000 when V.L. Manuel answered a classified add to purchase all of Mr. Franklin's inventory.

Since that time, Mr. Manuel formed Antilles Seaplanes in North Carolina. They are now taking deposits for their new G-21G Super Goose. To build this plane they took the original Grumman blueprints and refined the G-21 to be safer, stronger, lighter, more dependable, easier to maintain.

They rescued a piece of history!

Dekorta

There is a cool new phenomenon in Japan known as Dekorta. Dekorta is a combination of the English words 'decoration' and 'truck.' These trucks have elaborate lights, spoilers, murals, and chrome.

What is amazing is that these vehicles are actually used to transport goods.

iPhone 4 Sold Out

Apple took pre-orders for the 4s version of the iPhone yesterday. Unfortunately, they sold out of the pre-order phones in one day. How many were there you might ask - 600,000.

Is there any end to Apple's magic?

Goonies

The movie 'Goonies' was released 25 years ago this week. People are actually going on tours of the Oregon town where it was filmed.

Man, this makes me feel old :-)

Be Careful Who You Play With

Be careful who you play with, they might have cooties! I am sure that is how Apple is feeling today. This is the worst security breach in Apple history. It was not Apple that exposed customer data but their business partner AT&T.

A group of hackers obtained the email addresses of 114,000 iPad users from a database at AT&T. I would not want to be the head of security at AT&T today! His next job may involve the words 'is this for here or to go?'

World's Biggest Burger

Just when you think you have seen everything, someone makes a 90 kilogram hamburger.

The real question is - where did they get a bun that large :-)

Just Wrong

This is self explanatory and wrong on many levels!

iPhone 4

The new version of the iPhone was announced at WWDC today. This phone is a real game changer. Of all of the features, the new FaceTime feature is my favorite. It is video calling right out of the Jetsons.

How Did We Live Without It?

I wonder how we lived without this for so long? :-) Bacon Vodka is a savory bacon flavor. It’s clean, crisp, and delicious, or so they say.

Ford Dropping Mercury

It seems that the current economic climate has not been kind to the Mercury brand. Ford has decided that all production will cease fourth quarter of 2010.

Due to security concerns, Google has decided to phase out the use of all Microsoft operating systems. Employees must now decide between Mac OS or an open-source Linux computer.
