Kindle Fire

Amazon announced the Kindle Fire today. It is their answer to the iPad. It is an Android device that is light and durable with access to all of Amazon's books, movies and TV shows.

This may well be the first product that actually challenges the iPad.

I really would not want to be Barns and Noble right now!

Sara

This is Sara. I met her last Sunday. She is the cheetah looking out the window in my previous blog post.

Isn't she stunning.

An Open Window

There is nothing like an open window on a Fall day to soak in the view.

I spent the afternoon taking photos of Nia and Sara. Insomuch that Cheetahs can see as far as three miles away, there is no telling what she was looking at :-)

Zoofari 2011

Zoofari 2011 was the best ever. This is the annual black-tie fund raiser for the Cincinnati Zoo.

The weather was amazing and Emily got her photo in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

New World Record Maine Coon

It looks like Stewie just set a new world record. This Maine Coon measures 48.5 inches. He is in the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records.

Nikon 1

Nikon has finally announced a mirrorless line of cameras called the Nikon 1. They are rather late to the game on this one. In fact, Canon is the only other manufacturer that has not yet released a mirrorless line of cameras.

Given Nikon's poor reception in the compact camera arena, it will be interesting to see how this works out for them. At 10.1mp and $650, it is appealing.

Now if they would only release the update to the D700!

Graeme - A Rock Star

This is a heartwarming story. Graeme follows his owner to the train station every day when she goes to work. He them visits with people that pass by all day while waiting on his owner to return. Graeme spends all day making friends.

Graeme always knows which train his mother is on.

Great story!

Phosphorescent Felines

How would you like to have a phosphorescent kitty? These kitties were created by the Mayo Clinic by injecting a genetically engineered protein that prevents them from contracting feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), the kitty version of HIV. The protein contains jellyfish, which makes the kitties glow in the dark.

The researchers did not intend to make the kitties glow in the dark, but rather prevent them from being able to contract FIV.

Very cool research!

Building A Death Star

Were you to build a Death Star, how much would it cost? That is a question that Air Force Lt. Col. Dan Ward examined in the Pentagon's publication, Defense AT&L Magazine. The articles is highlighted in Wired this month.

The total price came in at $15.6 septillion and 94 cents. This sounds like a lot but I could not find a currency calculator for the Empire's currency :-)

Best Telecom Commercial

This is a great commercial for a telecom company in France. While my French is not good enough to keep up, it is cute!

The Melt

Remember the Flip video camera? When Jonathan Kaplan sold the company to Cisco, he was looking for a new business venture. Enter 'The Melt.'

The premise is that you can get a gourmet grill cheese sandwich and a drink for $7.

This place sounds great!

With the holiday weekend upon us, nothing makes cold drink like a blender attached to a 1958 Johnson Outboard Motor.

I NEED this! :-)

Ninja Kitty

This kitty has some serious Ninja skills!

A Great Day!

DOJ blocked the AT&T / T-Mobile merger. How I feel about this can best be summed up by the following quote in Wired magazine online - "I'm so happy that I don't have to be an AT&T customer!" Honestly, have you EVER met anyone that liked AT&T. No, me either.
