Lum-Tec M14 Chronograph

My new Lum-Tec M14 Chronograph is here. It has been on order since April. This watch is pretty amazing. Mine is number 42 of 100. They are all hand built. I like this even better than my Lum-Tec Bull45 A1.

What an amazing watch. Thanks Chris!

New Life For Old iMac Case

What a great use of an old iMac DV case. Klaus Diebelput placed a Mac mini, JBL Spot subwoofer and WMF1 coffeemaker maker into an old, unused iMac.

People do all kinds of case mods to these old iMac cases. Just more genius at work.

Today the Harvard Business Review named Steve Jobs the best performing CEO in the world.

Per HBR, the key to his success - 'Long Term Thinking.'

NASA Orders Nikon D3S

NASA just placed an order for eleven Nikon D3S digital SLR cameras and seven AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lenses to be used for photographic documentation. I am trying to figure out this equation. It seems to me to be the package of hot dogs / package of hot dog buns dilemma.

That should hold them over for a little while :-)

My Hero

This guy is my hero! He takes his iMac to Panera to use the free Internet connection.

According to Gizmodo, he does this on a regular basis. This guy is my hero!

Predator Drone Hacked

What genius thought that an unencrypted signal a Predator Drone was a good idea?

Iraqi insurgents are able to intercept live video feeds from the Predator drones using a $26 Windows application called SkyGrabber. It allows them to track the pilotless aircraft undetected.

Unbelievable!

Camera Lens Mug

This is the best coffee mug ever. If this ever came to market I would certainly buy one!

Unbelievable

This is an amazing story. A skydiving instructor dropped a Canon XT 3000 feet and it still worked.

Canon should use this in their ads.

Makes Me Want To Cry

This makes me want to cry. This is security at the Jerusalem airport. If you don't answer their questions properly, they will fill your Macbook full of bullets. What is really amazing is that the hard drive still worked after this.

27 Inch iMac Delays

This is not good news with the holiday season upon us. Apple has delayed shipments of their new 27" iMac due to problems. The latest is a flickering display which has been attributed to a graphics card issue. A number of these iMacs have arrived with a cracked screen.

In the end, Apple will make this right. It just might take a little while.

New Google Phone

This may be the most exciting technology news in months. Google will be releasing their own native Android device in January. It will be called the "Nexus One." If you are a geek, then you know where the name came from and that it is one of the coolest names for a device ever.

The above photo came from a tweet by Cory O'Brien, an account manager at a San Francisco Bay Area marketing agency. His firm does not represent Google. It seems that the phone has been spotted by several reliable source on the Google campus this month.

I can't wait to pick up one of these!

Discount Heart Surgery

The WSJ today detailed an Indian surgeon named Devi Shetty that has revolutionized heart surgery through economies of scale. He plans to open a 2000 room Cardiac facility in Grand Cayman.

He will hire only the world's top surgeons. Here is the amazing part, with Shetty's setup, an open heart surgery costs $2,000 instead of the $20,000 or $40,000 it might in the United States.

World's Best Invention?

Could this possibly be the world's best invention. It is an Internet-based cat food dispenser built out of an old Cisco switch.

Mathew Newton can ensure that his invention is working properly by using his kitchen-based web cam.

This guy could give Wile E. Coyote a run for his money :-)

Microsoft Does It Again!

Microsoft is at it again. Their latest round of security patches for Windows XP, Vista and 7 appears to be causing some PCs to seize up and display a black screen. This renders the computer useless.

It is good to know that even with a new operating system, some things don't change :-)

Coolest Restaurant Ever

This could well be the coolest restaurant ever! It is an undersea restaurant at the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa. It costs $5 million and will only seat 14 people. This alone would be worth a trip to the Maldives!

Android And Chrome OS To Converge

According to Sergey Brin Android and the Chrome OS "will likely converge over time." Eric Schmidt added that it is too early to tell how the OSes will be used and it will just unfold as it goes along. This is the natural flow of open-source.

This will be very cool to watch.

Chrome OS Detailed

Google showcased their new operating system, Chrome, today. Google’s Sundar Pichai, vice president of product management and Matthew Papakipos, engineering director for Google Chrome OS, did a Chrome demonstration.

My favorite line in the entire presentation was "It just works." There is a novel notion for an OS that Microsoft seems to keep missing. The boys in Redmond must be in a full blown panic today.

New Christmas Idea

Not sure what to get that special someone for Christmas this year. From the people that brought you Baconnaise and bacon flavored popcorn comes bacon flavored envelopes.

New Casio G1

Casio just released a new rigid camera called the G1. This is basically the G-Shock version of a small digital camera. It will be exciting to see how this pans out. Casio used to make very good small cameras but their quality has suffered in the last 24 months or so.

Never rule Casio out!

This Is Just Bad

The Microsoft Store employees break out in a dance, not something that they know how to do. Check out the skinny guy on the right side. He will forever have this dance on YouTube for his children and grandchildren to see.

Psystar Gone

It looks like U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup put perhaps the final nail in Psystar's coffin on Friday. The Judge stated that “Psystar has violated Apple’s exclusive reproduction right, distribution right, and right to create derivative works.”

Psystar had been violating Apple's OS X copyright by installing it on clones, a clear violation of the terms of use.

The Judge granted Apple's requested summary judgement, which you can believe that Psystar will never pay given their current financial situation.

The real back story is that there is a rumor that one of the PC manufacturers was funding the entire Psystar fiasco.

Every wonder where your missing luggage went? Here is a story about a couple in Phoenix that stole over 1000 pieces of luggage from the airport.

The moral of the story is to make your luggage look different!

Smartphones Too Complicated

Mr. Martin Cooper here thinks that your smart phone is too complicated. He knows a little about cellphones. He is the former lead engineer at Motorola who invented the handheld cellphone. He is of the opinion that we are going to see another paradigm shift in mobile technology soon.

World's Best Point & Shoot Camera

Canon just released what many believe to be the best point and shoot camera made today, the S90. The reason that is is the best is that it allows direct control over all aspects of exposure and has the lowest low-light noise of any camera in its class.

For a full review of the Canon S90 head over to Ken Rockwell's site.

Amelia Earhart Found?

New iPod Dock

Now this is an iPod speaker to be proud of. It is a whopping 4x3 feet. Check out the nano sitting next to the speaker. It is made Brothers in Drottninggatan, Stockholm. It is only $4,495 plus shipping.

Here is the funny thing, they sold out of the first run. If you really want one you have to be placed on a waiting list for the next production run.

NSA's New Data Center

The NSA has outgrown it's current data center space. As such, they are building a 1.5 million square foot data center in Utah. This place is going to be HUGE. It will be a 30-megawatt facility and will be cooled by chilled water and capable of Tier 3, or near carrier-grade, reliability.

This will be the largest known data center in existence. The second largest belongs to - you guessed it, the NSA.

One Year With Winnie

It was one year ago today that Winnie came to live with us. Just like with Boo Boo, we bought him the day that he was born. I drove two hours to Amish country on this day in 2008 to meet Winnie’s mom, Lisa Hendershot of Paws and Purrs Cattery. Lisa and her husband were kind enough to meet me half way. They live in Akron.

Winnie was a scared little 1.5 pound bundle of fur. He was not happy in his carrier so I let him ride in my lap all the way home. He just slept and purred.

Little Winnie is awesome! (Click on photo for a larger version)

This Is Poetic

TUAN pointed out something poetic concerning a Steve Ballmer interview on the Today show yesterday. During the interview concerning Windows 7, a graphic was placed in the background. Look close - that is a MacBook Pro with a Windows 7 graphic :-)

Windows 7 Launch

Windows 7 was launched today with a keynote in NYC by Steve Ballmer. The best thing about Windows 7 is that it's not Vista!

Best Yardsign Ever!

This may well be the best yard sign ever!

This Is Painful

This is just painful to look at. The guys over at ifixit.com have dismantled a 27" iMac to see how it is put together. One thing that you can say is the the people at Apple really know how to build a computer!

Just Wrong!

This is just wrong. Manny Williams loves his Nikon D3X so much that he had it tattooed on his forearm. At least it's not a Zune tattoo :-)

Windows 7 In The UK

I found this photo on Engadget today. Notice that Steve Ballmer is Lucius Malfoy.

The story is that Windows 7 is selling faster than Harry Potter on Amazon in the UK. This is probably due to the disaster known as Vista. As John C. Dvorak puts it, "Windows 7 is just a Vista martini. Like a martini made with cheap vodka, you are inevitably going to get the same old Windows hangover".

Windows 7 may be better than Vista but at the end of the day, it is still Windows.

New iMac

I am so excited about this new iMac that I can hardly stand it. This new beauty is a 27-inch for the same price as the old 24-inch. The top end 27-inch model is quad-core with a Radeon HD 4850 graphics card. The resolution is a staggering 2,560 x 1,440.

I must have one!

One Year With Boo Boo

It was one year ago today that Boo Boo came to live with us. We bought Mr. Boo Boo the day that he was born from Teresa Signore of Highlander Cattery. We cannot thank her enough for selling him to us.

When Boo Boo came home he was all of 3.5 lbs and scared to death. It didn’t take him long to get accustomed to his new home. He slept in a shoe box during the day and slept with me at night. He still sleeps with me but now he weighs in at svelte 19 lbs and a little over 40” nose to tail.

Mr. Boo Boo is awesome! (Click on photo for a larger version)

I Love Android

I love Google! The Android platform is no different. For each new release of Android, version 1.5 (Cupcake), 1.6 (Donut), 2.0 (Eclair), Google puts a foam facsimile on the front lawn.

Well, yesterday, the Eclair was delivered. Very funny video.

It's About Time!

I am sure that I m not alone on this one. How many of you hate loud commercials. I, for one, would not purchase anything from a company with loud commercials.

Rep. Anna Eshoo of California has proposed the 'Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act.' This act would make it illegal to increase the volume of commercials.

It is about time!

Nikon D3S Released

Nikon released the new D3S today. This is a mid-cycle release. So what is new? A higher ISO limit of 12,800. That itself is amazing. It also does video.

My take on the new high-end Nikon's is mixed. I love high end quality but honestly, why make the camera into a video game. Doesn't anyone make a great camera that is just a camera anymore. There is an answer to that question but who has Leica money in this economy? :-)

T-Mobile Sidekick Debacle

In the recent T-Mobile Sidekick debacle, Microsoft had a server failure and lost all of their customer data. Honestly, isn't data backup covered the first week in Computer Science 101? Microsoft has said that there is no way to get the data back. How is this even possible?

For anyone that suffered from Microsoft's negligence, do yourself a favor and take T-Mobile up on their offer for an HTC/Google phone.

What will they think of next?

Dell Going Android

Today Dell announced that they will be making an Android handset for AT&T. This should be interesting.

Dell suffers miserably at customer service and they are now teaming up with AT&T, the one reason many people have not moved to the iPhone.

I love Google and I love the Android platform but this is not going to turn out well for anyone!

Saturn Is Gone

The Penske Group decided not to purchase Saturn after all. It appears as if the $81 billion of our tax dollars that went to bailout the automobile industry didn't work.

Saturn dealers have been given one year to close up shop.

Microsoft Doesn't Get It

This is a video that Microsoft distributed to people that are having Windows 7 parties. Honestly, this could not be any more boring. Cnet goes so far as to call it 'The Worst Microsoft promo video ever.' How can a company like Microsoft make so many mistakes?
