More Bad News for Vista

More bad news for Microsoft when it comes to Vista. Intel announced today that they will NEVER install Vista on any of their internal machines. It seems that Microsoft can't catch a break when it comes to their most recent operating system.

Intel is not alone in regard to Vista. The bottom line for most organizations is that their is no compelling business reason to move from XP to Vista. As much as I like Vista, I can't say that I disagree.

Usain Bolt Sets World 100m Record

Usain Bolt, a 21 year old from Trelawny Jamaica, set the world record for the 100m. An astonishing 9.72. The previous world record was held by Asafa Powell, also of Jamaica. Between the two sprinters they hold the top 7 100m times in the world.

They are set to race each other at the Jamaica Olympic trails on the 27-29 of June.

Microsoft Has a Sense of Humor!

This is actually hilarious. Microsoft took out a full-page ad in the San Jose Mercury News today, in an attempt to highlight its recruiting efforts in the Silicon Valley. Who do you think they are targeting? Yahoo and Google.

You have to hand it to Microsoft. They have a sense of humor!

Firefox 3 Sets Download World Record

Mozilla released Firefox 3.o yesterday and in doing so set the Guinness Book of World Records for the most downloads in a single day. I myself installed it on 3 computers.

Compared to Firefox 2.0, it is much faster, more secure, and doesn't crash as much.

Now, wouldn't it be nice if Microsoft could pull something like this off. I suppose that they would have to write software that works when it is released first :-)

The Vista Fiasco

It seems that Vista is an albatross that will not go away for Microsoft. Corporate customers do not want it. As best I can tell, the only people using Vista are consumers that do not have a choice when they buy a new PC. Actually, customers do have a choice. They can buy an Apple computer and have a much better user experience. Many consumers are doing just that as is evidenced by Apple's growing market share.

How bad is this scenario? Market analysts are saying that Microsoft's stock is down 22% this year alone. Many corporate users plan to skip Vista altogether and wait on Windows 7, the next version of Windows. The thing is, Microsoft has such a track record for releasing buggy operating systems, even if Windows 7 is much better than Vista, no corporate user that knows what they are doing will go near it before the first service pack is released.

3G iPhone

Yesterday at WWDC, Steve Jobs announced the new 3G iPhone. Faster, lighter, and cheaper. What a combination. This is really what people wanted in the first iPhone. In addition, for the first time, you will be able to legally install third-party applications on your iPhone.

Are there any downsides to the new iPhone? Of course there are. The number one drawback - AT&T! The iPhone is locked to AT&T. Furthermore, the 3G version will be much harder to hack. Being locked to one carrier is reason enough not to buy the iPhone. For this reason alone, the Blackberry is still the number one phone in this space.

Pringles Can Creator Buried in Invention

This was just too weird not to post. The man who designed the Pringles packaging system, Fredric Baur, was so proud of his accomplishment that a portion of his ashes has been buried in one of the iconic cans.
