No More Windows For Google

Due to security concerns, Google has decided to phase out the use of all Microsoft operating systems. Employees must now decide between Mac OS or an open-source Linux computer.

Google Chrome Speed Tests

The fastest browser in the world? It certainly seems that way :-) The speed tests, in slow motion, were actual web page rendering times.

This is very cool!

Android And Chrome OS To Converge

According to Sergey Brin Android and the Chrome OS "will likely converge over time." Eric Schmidt added that it is too early to tell how the OSes will be used and it will just unfold as it goes along. This is the natural flow of open-source.

This will be very cool to watch.

Chrome OS Detailed

Google showcased their new operating system, Chrome, today. Google’s Sundar Pichai, vice president of product management and Matthew Papakipos, engineering director for Google Chrome OS, did a Chrome demonstration.

My favorite line in the entire presentation was "It just works." There is a novel notion for an OS that Microsoft seems to keep missing. The boys in Redmond must be in a full blown panic today.

Bill Gates - More Of The Same

I suppose that this was to be expected. Following Steve Ballmer's usual colorful statement about anything not made by Microsoft, Bill Gates today said about Chrome OS "in some ways I am surprised people are acting like there's something new. I mean, you've got Android running on Netbooks. It's got a browser in it." Gates further went on to get another dig in at Google by saying that "the more vague they are, the more interesting it is."

For those of you that don't remember, the first time Mr. Gates saw an iPod he said "that only does on the Mac - doesn't it?"

What this really points out is how much Chrome OS is rattling Microsoft's cage!

Another Steve Ballmer Moment

Steve Ballmer just can't help himself. At the Windows Partner Conference he called Chrome OS "highly interesting," and went on to say "I don't know if they can't make up their mind or what the problem is over there, but the last time I checked, you don't need two client operating systems. It's good to have one." This coming from a company that is releasing six different versions of Windows 7.

In my mind, this means that Chrome OS is likely to be a huge success. Remember when he predicted the failure of the iPhone? :-)
